the neat life.

One of my favorite rooms in my house is the kitchen. Sure, the dining room and living room are great for entertaining but every single time I host friends, EVERYONE always ends up in the kitchen. It really does have a lot of character; exposed brick walls, patriotic touches (a la Pottery Barn), double ovens and a charming little view of our back patio. However, this is also why I am so embarrassed to say that before the lovely ladies of Neat Method DC took over my kitchen, it was quite a mess.

Neat Method is a lifestyle service that specializes is professional organizing with a fun and “neat” take on it. One of my sorority sisters, Raelynn and her good friend, Catherine, brought the San Francisco/Chicago based company to DC recently – and thank goodness for that.

Now, before I go any further I must add that I’ve always considered myself to be quite organized and Type A+ when it comes to the home, office or even back in school. But when you combine three girls and all their items plus my roomates and I’s love for koozies, custom stadium cups, cupcake liners and the like, you end up with one big mess. I still remember the moment when I was getting ready for a party, opened the “pantry” and a bottle of olive oil came tumbling down all over me, the counters and my new dress. Whoops! It might of been then that I knew we needed this dynamic duo to come to the rescue and force us to de-clutter, stay organized (which I am proud to say we have!) and throw away the many duplicates (really, no one needs 3 can openers).

Raelynn and Catherine spent a few days organizing our kitchen, entertaining bar, all my parties supplies and even our storage closet full of holiday decorations and winter coats. I think they were pretty much sick of me all my striped straws and spices. They labeled, bought new items and made our lives 1000x easier. They also made me vow to never buy another tervis tumbler or cocktail napkin again.

Shocker: this promise was quickly broken.

Below is a look at a few before (don’t JUDGE) and afters of their work! Neat Method is a wonderful service perfect for moves, closets, offices and even gifts. These two will organize just about anything and with a smile + awesome beats on along the way.

P.S. those stadium cups below..go 4 rows back (#iwishiwaskidding).

Be sure to follow Neat Method along on instagram and the DC gals on twitter (#theneatlife). Even if you can’t or don’t want someone to organize your things –  their blog can provide you with helpful tips (#tiptuesdays) each week to incorporate in your everyday life – including travel advice (I desperately needed this!)

Hopefully this inspires you to live a little more neat and begin to de-clutter this fall. My next project…the closet. Wish me luck!

macarons & mimosas: dagne dover trunk show

I have some exciting news! H&T will be co-hosting a great event NEXT weekend in DC with Dagne Dover handbags & PopInShop. My friend Carly of The College Prepster first introduced me to Dagne Dover a few months ago. She, too, is a big fan!

(Watch the video below and you’ll see WHY we love the totes so much).

Rightfully so, Dagne Dover has quickly become one of my favorite handbag brands – especially the totes for the work day or for travel. They are not only organized, but pleasing to the eye too. Not to mention, they are the exact opposite of a “bottomless pit” that so many other totes we know and love are. The clutch + wallet fit right in the totes too.

So please join me next weekend in Georgetown for Macarons & Mimosas!

RSVP HERE and invite your friends!

You will also receive 20% OFF all full-priced items at Urban Chic plus amazing giftbags – this is a great time to start searching for those holi-dresses! And in true #hostingandtoasting fashion, we will be serving Pumpkin Spice Macarons courtesy of Macaron Bee + Apple Cider Mimosas by yours truly.

Abbey from District Dressup is hosting this great event with me. She was recently featured in Glamour and is quite the fashionista.  If you live in the DC area or have friends that do, I hope you’ll stop by and pass along!  We would both love to meet you over a macaron and mimosa!

tablescape tuesday: thanksgiving prep

I wrote yesterday that I would be celebrating and hosting Thanksgiving with my family in DC this year. In college, I flew home to Florida for the holiday each year and since then (5 years already, ahh!), I have alternated between Florida, DC with friends (#friendsgiving) and other nearby destinations. This year, however, is different because my entire family will be headed up to DC to celebrate Thanksgiving with a fall backdrop for once (no pretty orange and red leaves in Florida this time of year or ever). I’m the oldest of four — with two younger sisters and one younger brother ages 9 to 23 so needless to say, it’ll be a full house around my dining room table.

I’m spending the next couple of weeks setting the menu with the help of my stepmom (she’s the best cook!) and youngest sister (she has a few requests, ha!). I’m also in the market for the perfect tablescape to share with them.

I plan to keep our Pottery Barn pumpkins and leaves in tact and add other pieces, fresh flowers and place settings for a put-together yet casual feel. After all, this essentially will be a “kids table” with all four of us in attendance.

Below are a few inspiration pictures I have been browsing to get me in the spirit.

However, I am most inspired by this Camille Styles Thanksgiving video from 2011.

She captivates the entire holiday perfectly with family, food and no small detail left unnoticed (love is in the details, right?) . This is also why she is such an inspiring entertaining role model of mine!

Be sure to check back later this month to take a look at how my tablescape turns out!

hello november.

I don’t know about you but for me, it’s hard to believe it’s already November. It seems like just yesterday we were in the midst of summer cookouts and beach days. Not to mention, sunkissed skin. Nonetheless, ready or not, November has arrived and that also means Thanksgiving is just around the corner. I am happy to be staying put this month and hosting my family in DC for the holiday (more on that later).

However, it’s easy to get caught up at the start of the holiday season and before we know it, Christmas parties and 2014 will be here. I’ll admit it, I’m already “saving the date” for numerous parties and planning a few of my own. But, I’m also making a promise to myself to enjoy this next month and embrace it before the season of cocktail dresses and holiday hearts begin.

What else am I looking forward to in November? Hosting & Toasting is #hosting two events in the DC area so check back here soon for more details and announcements. I am excited to partner up with some great brands and bloggers!

Oh yes and in case you missed it – J.CREW is having another SALE! Fall Sale Items are an additional 30%-50% OFF. While J.CREW Factory is having 30% OFF all NEW Arrivals. Best of both worlds.  Below are a few of my faves.

Make it a great Monday!

Wedding Gifts: for the home & for the bride

In true fashion, it’s that time of year where fall weddings and corresponding activities are upon us. In fact, this weekend I am headed home to sunny Florida for one of my good friend’s weddings. I cannot wait to be reunited with all my high school friends and celebrate!

With that being said, I’ve gathered a few gift suggestions for bridal showers & the big day. Especially if you’re late to the game and all that’s left on the registry is silverware and drying racks.

Monograms are strongly encouraged.

For the home:

For the bride:

I also recommend the Pottery Barn’s wedding & monogram shop, any piece on Design Darling, Kate Spade’s bridal collection  or a wine club membership for the happy couple.

Are you in the midst of wedding season too?
